Big Baller

top: topshop
leggings: american apparel
boots: topshop
necklace: topshop
watch: michael kors
nails: barry m gelly polish 'prickly pear'
lips: topshop 'macaroon'

I'd been on the hunt for a baseball style top like this for sooo long and now Topshop have finally provided me with one, thank you! I really like the sportswear trend which is trickling into the shops at the moment for the upcoming Spring season so this top is my starting point. I paired it with my trusty AA lycra leggings and Topshop boots which always come in handy on days where I want a little extra height but still with the comfort factor. I also wore my chunky rose gold chain necklace which I've become pretty attached to at the moment. I'm not one for dainty silver jewellery, I love my cheap n chunky pieces so this is perfect.

Recently, I have read many good reviews for the new Barry M Gelly nail polish so when I saw it on a 3 for 2 offer in Boots I decided to buy it. I wasn't a massive fan of the range of colours, they all seemed pretty dull so I went for this lavendar shade, a dark purple and a raspberry red. I have to say I am really impressed with the overall finished look. The polish has an extra glossy and thick appearance with a strong staying power. I've been wearing the polish since Monday and haven't had any chips so that's a bonus. The only thing I would say is you do have to add extra coats throughout the week as the colour tends to dull. And one last thing, what is with the names of the shades?! 'Prickly Pear'? I really don't understand who chose these names and why but they need to be changed, asap!

Now Trending: Patchwork Perfect

cami vest tops: topshop
sequin t-shirt dress: allsaints
patchwork t-shirt dress: topshop boutique
herringbone jumper: romwe
block slingback heel: preen for aldo
paisley blouse: zara
geo bodycon dress: topshop
trainer: nike
court shoe: emma cook at asos

Beware, this trend is not for the faint-hearted! I'm a huge fan of prints so when this patchwork print trend hit the runway from the likes of Peter Pilotto and Michael Van Der Ham I was delighted. Peter Pilotto's Spring 2013 collection was possibly one of my all-time favourites. I gushed over the rich patterns with bright pops of colour scattered over girly peplums and the intricate use of laser-cutting. I would wear every piece of this collection...if only I could afford half of one!

I've slowly watched this trend trickle from catwalk to highstreet over the past few weeks and the it is sure to be a big one for the upcoming season. Topshop have definitely hit the mark with these cute sheer camis and structured t-shirt dress. I'd probably like to see some brighter pieces enter the collection at some point with slightly more daring shapes. I do think this trend needs a simple silhouette but you can see move away from a basic t-shirt shape to something more diverse. I would love an oversized silk blouse with patchworks of geo and floral patterns in a combination of pastel and fluoro colours to come in at some point but I won't hold my breath! With this trend, I would also recommend keeping hair and make-up pretty simple so the focus can be left on the patchwork patterns. Michael Van Der Ham did feature bright lips on the models wearing his collection which worked quite well but only with certain patterns and shades. I can't wait for more pieces to hit the high street, bank account...brace yourself!

Forever fuchsia

top: topshop
leggings: american apparel
boots: zara
necklace: river island
watch: michael kors
spike bracelet: topshop
ring: topshop
nails: topshop 'plume'
lips: topshop 'macaroon'

I've always been more suited towards neutral shades such as nude and beige but lately I've been really attracted to bright colours for the upcoming new season. I recently bought these fuchsia boots which I tried to get hold of during the Zara Christmas sale but they all sold out. I purchased them via a seller on eBay and paid slightly more for them than I would have liked but they were worth the extra pennies. I'm not sure I would wear these to work as the heel is quite high but they're great for an evening out.

I wanted to make the boots pop out from my outfit so paired them with this oversized mesh stripe top which I bought during the week. My new internship at Styloko is literally 5 minutes away from Oxford Circus which is burning a hole in my bank card! I love anything featuring panels of mesh fabric at the moment and I know I will get a lot of wear out of this. The oversized fit makes it extra comfortable and easy to wear and it is sensibly priced at £20.

I'm extremely excited about a special little trip I am going on soon which I can't mention as it's a surprise for a certain somebody! I shall reveal all nearer the time when the cat has been let out of the bag. I decided to buy this gorgeous jewelled necklace to take away with me. I was immediately drawn towards the colourful gems and I think it looks great against a black top/ dress. It really compliments the fuchsia shade of the boots and ties the whole outfit together. The necklace is definitely a keeper for the Summer holidays too. I can imagine it looking perfect with a black sheer cover-up on the beach, hurry up Summer!

Now Trending: the art of contrast

I've been blogging for about 18 months now and I never tend to venture out and look for new posts to create. Whilst twiddling my thumbs today, I had a little think about new topics I could post about or a new tag I could include on my blog. I'm a fashion student so current trends and trend research play a big part in my interests. Therefore, I decided to create a new post entited 'Now Trending' which will feature the latest trends for the upcoming seasons. Hopefully this may help you learn a little more about what trends will be infiltrating from the catwalk to the highstreet and also show you where you can find some key pieces.
I had a naughty shopping spree during the weekend which I posted about, and whilst taking my photographs I realised that practically every piece featured contrasting. I've always been a fan of clashing colours, monochrome and panelling so this upcoming trend suits me down to the ground. My all time favourite designers included this trend in their Spring/ Summer '13 collections and it has already began to filer into the shops. Personally, I'm loving the monochrome stripes which are around at the moment. I've purchased a couple of over-sized striped shirts along with my monochrome and nude Céline bag.

Luckily, I think this trend is suitable for everyone and can also be flattering on some many different body shapes. For example, contrast panelling can be used to create illusions which emphasise an hour glass figure, along with vertical stripes making legs appear longer. Adding a bright pop of colour on the lip or nails can also brighten up any monochrome outfit - I usually opt for Topshop 'Beguiled' for a dark lip or Sleek 'Mystic' for a bright pop.

I hope you like this new style of post and find it interesting or helpful, I think it gives my blog a little more depth and also helps me to improve my writing skills. I definitely want to pursue a career within fashion journalism or working for a fashion magazine so this is really suitable. Let me know your thoughts on this and any upcoming trends you would like me to cover at the moment!

Lusting after #34

wrap maxi skirt: topshop boutique
face highlighter: bobbi brown
perfume: jean paul gaultier 'madame'
lipstick: bobbi brown 'orange'
necklace: nelly
boots: topshop
ring: marc by marc jacobs
t-shirt: céline
handbag: sophie hulme
aztec tapestry skirt: topshop
grey embellished dress: all saints
card holder: tom ford

As my 21st birthday is fast approaching I thought it would be appropriate to put together a little collection of some of the things I want at the moment. Some of them are very wishful thinking, I know, but a girl can dream! A couple of my ultimate favourites are the wrap Topshop Boutique skirt paired with the heeled boots. I recently saw a photo of Michelle Keegan wearing a similar thigh split skirt and it's made me want one! I can imagine wearing this with some form of embellished crop and the orange Bobbi Brown lipstick popping on the lip.

I'm also incredibly in love with this Sophie Hulme nude and gold plated zipped tote bag which costs a whopping £550. I always drool over it everytime I visit Selfridge's. It would be the perfect 'everyday' bag, especially for the upcoming Spring season. My boyfriend wants to buy a nice piece of jewellery for my birthday but there's not much around that catches my eye at the moment. I do love this rose gold clasp ring from Marc Jacobs. I'm a fan of anything chunky or rose gold so this would fit in well with my current jewellery collection.

I've been on the hunt for a new scent at the moment and came across this lovely JPG one called 'Madame'. I thought it was new as I'd never seen it before but turns out it came out in 2008. The scent is absolutely divine - a mix of rose, cedar and musk. It's quite sharp but will be a nice change from my usual extra sweet smellies!

Better together

jumper: topshop (sale)
jeans: topshop
shoes: american apparel
necklace: topshop
bag: céline
bracelet: h&m
nails: models own 'indian ocean'
lips: tom ford 'nude vanille'

At last the snow has gone and I can finally resort back to wearing normal footwear! I was exactly like bambi on the ice and nothing sounded more scary than slipping on Oxford Street so it was taking me hours to get anywhere. I'm also fed up of wearing 13592 layers and then melting on the tube so I really hope the weather picks up soon or I'm moving somewhere tropical!

I've really got into wearing jeans lately which is strange as I never owned a pair until a couple of months ago. I always believed they emphasised the stumpy-ness of my legs so I avoided them. I really love these deep purple waxed Leigh jeans and I think they are actually flattering for once. The fabric is really soft and stretchy so it doesn't feel like wearing a typical denim pair of jeans. I paired them with this black knitted jumper which has a sheer panel across the shoulders and neck. I'm extremely picky when it comes to knitwear, especially from high street brands, as I find so many pieces too itchy. The yarn of this jumper is really soft against the skin and light, it also isn't too thick so fits perfectly under my winter coat.

I can't get enough of statement necklaces at the moment and purchased this new one yesterday whilst browsing in Topshop on my lunch break. I was really drawn to the detailing on the turquoise stones, I think it's meant to be a small painting of a flower but I couldn't get a good close up photograph due to the lighting in my hallway. I'm definitely going to end up very poor after working on Oxford Street for the next 3 months so maybe it's time I start budgeting...

Today I bought #45

striped blouse: zara
diamond print blouse: h&m
monochrome tee: h&m
colour block blouse: topshop
heels: kurt geiger
jewel necklace: river island
stone necklace: topshop
lip gloss: maybelline super stay 10 hour lipgloss 'endless ruby', 'timeless plum' and 'forever fuchsia'
lipstick: topshop 'macaroon'

I finally have the internet back, hallelujah! Over the past few days I've actually felt like I've lost an arm or something, it really puts into perspective just how much I rely on modern technology. I didn't get round to taking any outfit posts over the weekend or today as I have just started my new job so everything is all over the place at the moment. Also, the snow has forced me to just wear layers upon layers of the warmest items I own so I haven't really been wearing any of my new bits and pieces.

I thought I'd show some of my new purchases over the past week or so as I haven't done one of these for a while. Since starting work I've definitely seen an increase in the amount of shirts and blouses I buy, it seems to be the only pieces that attract me when I walk into a shop. I'm big on monochrome stripes and prints at the moment, along with colour blocking so these blouses and smart tops I have bought pretty much revolve around that style. I particularly love the short sleeved  contrast block blouse from Topshop. I really wanted to wear this for my first day at Styloko but short sleeves are a definite no no in this weather.

I don't think I've mentioned this but it is infact my 21st birthday in a couple of weeks time, yay! Actually...I don't know why I've just said yay because the thought of being 21 actually quite scares me. I've been on the hunt for the perfect party dress lately and haven't found anything but did come across these beautiful Kurt Geiger heels. I love the perspex heart detailing and this looks really effective when they are on the foot. They were a mega splurge at £160 but you're only 21 once ey!

I'd also just like to gush about these incredible 10 hour lip glosses from Maybelline. I actually saw a girl using 'forever fuchsia' on the tube and loved the look so managed to hunt them down. They have a really strong colour coverage and don't dry out my lips due to the glossy finish. I wouldn't say they last 10 hours but they definitely last a while. I didn't have to re-apply after scoffing my Pret tuna baguette today so that speaks wonders.

Sheer Stripes

top: french connection
leggings: american apparel
dancing shoes: american apparel
necklace: topshop
watch: michael kors
ring: topshop
nails: jacava 'damson delight'
lips: sleek 'mystic'

What a nightmare today has already been and it's only 1pm! Unfortunately BT have royally screwed up our Broadband and phone line so I have been without internet for the past 48 hours which has been pure torture! Therefore, I have trekked in the snow to the nearest Cafe Nero to steal their WIFI until ours in fixed. Not even 5cm of snow will stop me from blogging! I've already fallen over twice, dropped my iPad and slipped on the wet floor so it has not been my finest moment.

Last night I was treated to the most insanely amazing meal at Bodean's in Clapham and some naughty cocktails beforehand. I used this as an opportunity to wear my fancy new statement necklace which I actually spotted whilst browsing Topshop's instagram photos. I think it is a tad bit Summery for the weather at the moment, what with all the bright gems used within the design but I couldn't resist. I've worn it with this black sheer stripe top which I purchased during a sample sale whilst I was interning at French Connection before Christmas. I love anything black/ mesh so this was right up my street and I also think it really flatters the waistline. I also wore my pewter AA lycra leggings which don't often get many outings as I always wear my black ones but I still am very fond of them.

I'm hoping our Internet will be fixed within the next few days. Until then I will either be coming to Cafe Nero on a daily basis or taking my laptop with me to work. I'm starting a new job with a company called Styloko on Monday which I'm really excited about. They are an online fashion website where you can find all your favourite brands in one place and create your own Scrapbook along with an online blog. If you haven't already heard of them, check it out!

Pleather Pleats

jumper: american apparel
leather-look skirt: primark
shoes: american apparel
necklace: h&m
watch: michael kors
earrings: h&m
nails: jacava 'damson delight'
lips: sleek 'vamp'

Since working in the fashion cupboard at Draper's, I've had to tone down on the little skirts and heeled boots for a while. Fashion and lifting boxes all day do not go! However, I picked out this skirt when getting ready this morning and couldn't resist a bit of pleather. I bought this ages ago and everyone is always so surprised when they find out it's from Primark. There was an identical version available from H&M but it had a zip up the side seam rather than an elasticated waist and was slightly more expensive. I paired it with what will always be my favourite jumper - my cream AA fisherman knit jumper. I love the yarn used within this knit, it's extra soft and not at all itchy which is something I always look out for when buying knitwear. I also have the grey version with the tiny colourful speckles within the knit but I haven't had the chance to wear it yet as my boyfriend always steals it!

I've mentioned before how I'm a huge fan of statement necklaces and have been for many seasons. They are such a great way to spice up and completely change the look of an outfit. I purchased this beautiful gem a few weeks ago, I was really drawn to the dark pewter chain contrasted against the small fluorescent orange jewels. I didn't manage to get a good close up photograph on my camera due to the flash/ lighting combination but I have featured one on my Instagram account (@lydiafayejones) for any of you who don't already follow me.

Jacava Nail Polish: Damson Delight

(from left to right):
'Marrakech Nights'*
'Damson Delight'*
'City Heights'*

I've always maintained my nails and experimented with different types of nail art from a young age. There's nothing I love more than a Sunday pamper night where I sit in my comfiest clothes wearing a face mask with wet hair and painting my nails. Therefore, I was delighted to receive this little bunch of lovely Jacava nail polishes in the post last week for me to experiment with.

Jacava is a British nail polish brand based in London which offers a wide range of nail polishes from neutral shades to pinks, plums, glitters and browns. None of their polishes contain any nasty chemicals that can harm your nails which is ideal as I find some polishes can make my nails weak or brittle.

When it comes to nail polish I'm either one of two extremes - soft and neutral or really really dark. I decided to opt for the deep berry shade of 'Damson Delights' as I thought this was pretty suitable for the Winter season. I applied 2-3 coats of the polish to create an extremely deep colour but 1 coat would be enough for a lighter but full colour coverage. I found that the polish took a few minutes to dry as I had applied some extra coats and I also ran my nails under cold water to set the polish. I was really pleased with the finished effect - the polish dries with an incredible high shine and glossy finish without even applying a top coat. I find that applying a top coat can often cause the nails to smudge and never properly dry so this was an added bonus.

From using Jacava polish in comparison to drugstore products, I can tell that this polish is much more luxurious and high quality. Each bottle is priced at £14.50 so it does fit within the high end bracket of nail polish but the range of gorgeous colours, glossy effect and long-lasting formula is worth the extra pennies. I've been lifting heavy boxes all day at Draper's and not one chip!

I made the huge mistake of going to watch The Impossible at the cinema last night and forgot to take a lifetime supply of tissues with me, so emotional! I'm not usually one for sad films but natural disaster type films really interest me for some reason. I was treated to a lovely dinner at Balans in Kensington afterwards so decided to get a little dressed up for my date night. I bought this striped crop top yesterday whilst mooching around. My 'mooching' always turns into 'spending' but mooching makes it sound more innocent! I love the lycra stretch fabric and how the stripes are slightly sheer in places. I thought this may have been quite unflattering on my arms as horizontal stripes can often be, but this was surprisingly flattering. I paired it with my leather-look skater skirt and a nude studded waist belt to break things up a bit.

I mentioned in my previous post that I had been incredibly naughty and purchased some new Jeffrey Campbell boots and here they are! The 'Lopez' boot - black leather with rose gold stud detailing across the front of the foot and a solid chunky heel. I have never loved a shoe so much in my life. Granted, they are slightly too high to wear in the day but I will definitely be using them for dinners and special events. They have practically sold out online and in every Office shop across the country so I was pretty lucky to snap these bad boys up, must be fate!

I have been lucky enough to receive some gorgeous Jacava nail polishes in three different shades. I was pretty spoilt for choice on which one to use first but decided on this lovely deep berry 'Damson Delight' shade. I will be posting a review of the nail polish at some point tomorrow so keep an eye out.
