Top Lipsticks 2012

(from left to right):
mac 'pure zen'
 mac 'diva'
yves saint laurent 'rouge volupté 30'
topshop 'whimsical'
mac 'creme d'nude'

This is a new post I'll be doing over the next few weeks of my favourite make-up beauty products of the year. Most of them I probably have purchased this year but there will be some oldies too that will always remain in my make-up bag! I thought I'd start off with my top lipsticks of the year as there are sooo many good ones to choose from, but here we go...

Mac 'Pure Zen'

'Pure Zen' is a fairly recent addition to my lipstick collection as it was part of the Marilyn Monroe inspired collection released this Autumn. It is a rosy beige nude with semi-opaque coverage as it is part of the chremesheen collection. These lipsticks tend to be quite glossy and glide across the lip easily but do not give a deep colour. As this lipstick has a rosy beige, almost peachy undertone, it doesn't wash me out and is a great daytime colour. I've been using this pretty much everyday since I bought it and dread the day it runs out!

Mac 'Diva'

'Diva' is a great shade for the Autumn/ Winter season and comes out my make-up bag every year at this time. The colour is a dark berry shade which pops against my skin, often creating quite a 'vampy' look which I love. It's part of the matte collection so tends to dry out my lips a little, but a coating of vaseline underneath helps to prevent this. In all honesty, I prefer a matte lipstick of this shade as it smudges less so takes less retouching throughout the day. I find the lipsticks stays on really well, it doesn't bleed or slide and can stay put all day. I always apply this with a Mac lip brush to create a slick line as otherwise things can get a bit messy!

Yves Saint Laurent 'Rouge Volupté 30'

Throughout the Summer months, I was on the hunt for the perfect coral lipsticks. Usually Mac provides me with every lip shade under the sun but they never product any coral colours for some reason. After a long struggle I came across this perfect shade at YSL. The texture is quite creamy so keeps your lips moist but the colour-coverage is also really thick so it creates a really deep coral shade. It is also slightly scented which is always a bonus!

Topshop 'Whimsical'

'Whimsical' was actually my first ever Topshop lipstick purchase and I've bought many many more since, this one just got the ball rolling! I find 'Whimsical' to be a very pale peachy shade which is perfect for any skin tone and goes well with my Bobbi Brown blusher which I wear every day. I usually use this lipstick during the day time as it has a fairly matte finish but glides along the lip well giving good colour-coverage. Topshop lipsticks are also very affordable at £7 which is another reason why they have hit the top of my lipstick ratings list.

Mac 'Creme D'Nude'

'Creme D'Nude' is one of those lipsticks that just about everyone owns, and I'm proud to admit I am one of those people! 'Creme D'Nude' is the perfect nude lipsticks which gives a creme sheen finish so doesn't look too heavy on the lip as many thick nude shades can. I find this lipstick to be very wearable during any day as it glides along the lip easily creating a sheen finish and doesn't dry my lips out. It also has a gorgeous vanilla scent which always makes a lipstick so much more appealing. I used to always purchase 'Myth' as my go-to nude lipstick but this has now taken over and won't be backing down anytime soon!

If you want to give your ratings for any of the lipsticks I've featured in this post, or even ones you think should be on my top ratings list but hasn't made the cut, leave it in a comment below and I'll be sure to consider it! Hope you enjoy!

Purple, purple & purple

t-shirt: topshop
leggings: topshop
dancing shoes: american apparel
necklace: topshop
watch: michael kors
rings: both topshop
nails: barry m 'bright purple'
lips: mac 'pure zen'

As you can probably already tell, I'm absolutely loving this dark purple/ red wine shade which is dominating my wardrobe at the moment! I've only just realised that my t-shirt, shoelaces and nail polish are all colour co-ordinated, now that is dedication right there! I picked up this t-shirt before my interviews on Tuesday, any excuse to mooch around the shops. I love the sheer panel across the chest and I also bought it in a size 12 so it has an oversized look which I think always looks better with a pair of leggings or skinnies. I paired it with these baroque print leggings which I also picked up before my interviews. I also rely on my classic AA lycra leggings when I need a pair of black leggings so thought these might spruce up my options a little bit. I do like the baroque prints that are around at the moment, although this is a slightly more subtle version but the hints of glitter make it stand out a bit more.

I have worn this rose gold necklace non-stop lately and don't plan on changing it any time soon. I really like the oversized chain look and because it's not gold it doesn't look too 'ghetto'. I also got round to changing my nail polish at long last and chose this bright purple shade from Barry M which has been sat in my drawer for months. It definitely came out much brighter than anticipated but I'm actually quite fond of the finished look. I had to stop myself from adding a top coat of glitter as this seems to be my usual 'go-to' at the moment but decided to keep it plain and simple. When the December 1st comes upon us it will be glitter, glitter and more glitter to keep with the festive spirit!

Mongolian fur

mongolian fur stole: river island (detached from gilet)
dress: miss selfridge
dancing shoes: american apparel
bag: zara
necklace: new look
lips: mac 'pure zen'

This is the outfit which I wore to my interviews yesterday, I'm a day behind on outfit posts because of the one I completely forgot about on Saturday but I'm sure I'll catch up when I have a day that I don't do photographs. I wasn't quite sure what style to wear for interviews so I went for a safe option which this marl grey dress I picked up over the weekend. I like the loose fit as it makes it easy to wear and the leather contrast panels on the shoulders add something different. I wore this with my mongolian fur stole which I detached from the leather gilet it came with. I love the shape of this and the way it curves around the shoulders, many stoles can be quite rectangular and I think they sit funny on the body. I also wore my grey marl River Island coatigan over the top to keep warm but didn't photograph it as then you couldn't see the dress at all.

I've got another interview lined up for Monday which I'm extra nervous about! I even have to make a SWOT analysis on the brand and compare it to another retailer in the same market. Luckily, I studied business studies at A Level and did a marketing module at university so I'm not completely clueless on what one is. Wish me luck, I'll need it!

Fun trousers

jumper: zara
trousers: h&m
dancing shoes: american apparel
bag: zara
necklace: topshop
rings: both topshop
watch: michael kors
lips: rimmel kate moss matte collection 113

How gorgeous is the print of these trousers? I'm absolutely obsessed with extravagant prints at the moment and as soon as I saw these I had to have them! They're a sort of aztec/ snakeskin monochrome style print which is really eye-catching and unique but also so easy to match with other items. I paired them with this contrast leather sleeve jumper from Zara which I also purchased over the weekend. You'd think with my wardrobe I'd have every colour jumper under the sun, but I actually don't have a good standard thick black jumper so invested in this one. I also bought this nude bag from Zara which is a really simple day bag and a good size to fit all your necessities in. It was priced at a 'special price' of £19.99 which is an absolute bargain for Zara bags so snapped it up quickly.

I'm loving this rose gold oversized chain necklace at the moment. I've always been a huge fan of rose gold ever since I bought my first Michael Kors watch two years ago. I love big and bold statement necklaces so this is right up my street, it's sure to make an impact on any outfit and could be worn with a going out dress for a night look too.

I've had a really busy day full of interviews for my next internship which is really exciting! I was meant to begin an internship with Wallis in January but unfortunately that fell through so I am having to make alternative arrangements. Hopefully I've been successful with one particular company today as it has me written all over it and I think I would learn so much from the experience, fingers crossed!

Layering is caring

top: river island
cardigan: topshop
leather gilet: river island
jeans: topshop
dancing shoes: river island
scarf: zara
necklace: topshop
watch: michael kors
nails: essie 'sand tropez' and models own 'snowflakes'
lips: mac 'creme d'nude'

I completely forgot that I'd taken these photo outfits during Saturday before I went to get my Christmas shopping done, too excited to hit the shops once again! Although it was quite chilly and pouring down with rain, I was in the festive spirit and wanted to wear this sparkly white vest. I usually wear this as a dress for nights out as it has a really low scooped back and is quite long in length. I wore it with my grey marl cardigan to keep me cosy and layered my leather gilet on top for a contrasting texture and some added warmth! I usually wear this with the detachable mongolian fur collar but used my sparkly skull scarf instead. I bought this a while ago but the gems kept falling off, they've now released a new version which is darker and the gems are stuck on better so I exchanged it over the weekend, cheeky!

I've turned into a real jeans fan at the moment, these soft Leigh ones are my favourite pair at the moment as they're so comfortable and don't lose their fit. Many jeans tend to go baggy within the first day of wear but as this fabric is stretchy and thin it stays as fitted as leggings would. I also bought the Topshop Leigh black coated jeans and a printed pair from H&M which will feature on tomorrow's blog post.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to start a 'My top...' style post which will basically feature my favourite lipsticks, hair products, foundations, skin products etc of 2012. I'll post these on days when I don't have time in the morning to take photographs for an outfit post so hopefully will get all of the ones I want featured before 2013 looms upon us!

Christmas came early

coat: graham & spencer @ fenwick's
jumper: topshop
leggings: american apparel
dancing shoes: american apparel
necklace: topshop
ring: topshop
watch: michael kors 'crystal chronograph'
nails: essie 'sand tropez' and models own 'snowflakes'
lips: mac 'pure zen'

You may have seen on my previous 'Lusting After' post I mentioned about how I was after a new Michael Kors watch for Christmas as my old one was pretty faded around the bracelet and slightly chipped. Well, my parents came down to visit this weekend and very kindly bought me this beautiful crystal chronograph style watch as an early Christmas present. I'm absolutely in love with this, it's very similar to my old one but obviously brand new and has rose golden crystals around the face. I'm considering selling my old one/ listing it on Ebay as I may still get a reasonable price for it so if anyone is interested you can email me directly.

This coat actually belongs to my momma but now it's in my wardrobe it will never come out! I've never heard of the brand before but I love the monochrome contrasting faux-fur which is incredibly soft and lightweight. Many of these style of jackets which are around at the moment are so chunky and I feel like they make me look 10 stone heavier! But this one is actually quite thin, despite how warm it looks, which is good as it means you can fit a big jumper underneath. I paired it with my black AA high-waisted leggings and grey marl jumper just to keep it simple.

I'd also just like to point out I'm fully aware that I'm wearing the same shoes nearly every single day but I can't praise these dancing shoes more. They took a while to wear into but now they are definitely my favourite 'day' shoe in my wardrobe. I love the idea of changing the ribbon laces to suit your outfit and for £55 they're a pretty good deal, definitely recommended!

Go-to Tee

t-shirt: zara
boyfriend blazer: jovonnista @ topshop
jeans: topshop
shoes: american apparel
necklace: topshop
skull bracelet: marbella market
cuff bracelet: h&m
ring: topshop
watch: michael kors
nails: 17 'sweet kisses' and models own 'boogie nights'
lips: mac 'shy girl'

This is my 'go-to' printed t-shirt which I always throw on when I'm feeling like an ultra casual day and I'm being a bit indecisive. I always used to think aztec prints should only be worn during the Summer months but I think the Autumn shades used within this print make it quite seasonal. I actually wore it as a dress to V Festival a long long time ago and it's remained in my wardrobe ever since. I paired it with this lovely boyfriend style blazer which I bought about a month ago now. I love the slouched casual style of the coat, it's so easy to match with everything and dead comfortable.

I absolutely adore these soft Leigh acid wash jeans at the moment but I'm dying for the slightly lighter version which they no longer stock or have on the website. I've tried eBay but keep getting outbid, so I've officially given up. If anyone knows of any sellers on eBay which have them at a 'buy it now' price, contact me immediately and I will love you forever!

Lusting after #32

collar dress: romwe
turtle neck jumper: romwe
playsuit: topshop
sequin jumper: miss selfridge
tote bag: river island
ankle boots: CJG for topshop
watch: michael kors
chunky heels: topshop

Sooo many lovely little goodies I want at the moment but so few pennies to buy them with! All of these bits and pieces are definitely going on my Xmas list. At the top of the list is definitely this cream tote bag from River Island - it was love at first sight but for £70 I wasn't quite sold. When I saw it in store I did think it was really good quality and I would probably use it everyday, but the only one left had a mark on it and I'm a perfectionist when buying something pricey! I also absolutely adore both of these heels from Topshop, unfortunately the CJG ones sold out pretty quickly which is not surprising as the lace charm print is beautiful. The embellished chunky style are new in so I guess they'll be around for a while, I'm not going out much these days due to work over load so haven't bought a new pair of heels in ages.

I'm also after this Michael Kors rose gold and crystal chronograph watch, although the one I have is really similar it's dead scratched and chipped as I've had it about 2 years so this shiny new one would be the perfect replacement. The rest of the items featured above are just some lovely Winter warmers along with a sheer panel playsuit which I've tried to hunt down in Topshop all week but haven't had any luck. It looks like the type of thing you need to try on to get the full effect so I'll see if I can find it on the weekend as ordering online and returning is too much of a faff!

I'm considering doing another 'every day make-up routine' post sometime soon as most of my make-up has really changed over the past couple of months. I usually stick to the same products but lately I've picked up quite a few new ones which would be good to share with you guys.

top: french connection (sample sale)
disco pants: american apparel
dancing shoes: american apparel
hat: topshop
scarf: h&m
rose gold cross necklace: prim ark
ring: topshop
bracelet: h&m
watch: michael kors
lips: chanel 'rose dentelle'

I definitely felt festive walking around in this ensemble today! I'm a big fan of red tartan prints at the moment and I've been on the hunt for a good warm scarf. I originally purchased one from Zara which had a sort of ombré tartan effect but the scarf itself was way too large and I couldn't find a good style to wrap it around so ended up taking it back. I then found this little gem whilst shopping in Knightsbridge during the weekend and for a mere £7.99 it was a definite bargain. I paired it with this silk printed t-shirt which I got for £4 during a sample sale at French Connection and my disco pants which have been getting a lot of wear recently. I find they keep me much warmer than my usual AA leggings and they do a good job at sucking you in as well so sometimes I think they look more flattering.

During the weekend I also purchased this bowler style hat which is very unlike me. I'm not really a 'hat' person for two reasons. 1 - I like wearing my hair up 99% of the time and 2 - I have quite a round face shape so many hats don't really suit me. I randomly tried this on whilst in the shops and my boyfriend reckoned it really suited me, I wasn't sure to begin with but now I really like it. It adds a little something extra to a casual outfit and is a good look for the Autumn/ Winter season. However, wearing my hat around the tube stations was not a wise idea, I forgot how windy the tunnels are so spent most of the time holding onto it for dear life!

Silver embrace

jumper: zara
disco pants: american apparel
dancing shoes: american apparel
lips: mac 'diva'
nails: 17 'sweet kisses' and models own 'boogie nights'

Apologies for the exposure of bra in these photos, I've noticed that the flash on my camera is too bright but oh well, these things happen! Anyway, say hello to my new beautiful jumper! I saw this in store on the weekend and ran over to it like a kid in a candy shop. Surprisingly, I never pick up anything that has silver embellishments as I'm more of a gold person but I loved the way the silver was complimented with the black and white knit. This definitely wouldn't have worked as well with gold, I think it might have looked slightly tacky so for once I'm glad silver was used! It was priced at £29.99 which I was quite surprised by as usually embellished products like this by Zara are in my opinion over priced. I paired it with my black AA lycra leggings and AA dancing shoes which are my favourite combination at the moment.

I picked up a couple of new polishes last weekend so thought I'd give 'Boogie Nights' for this week's nail. I never wear pink on my nails but as this glitter is combined with purple and blue it is mildly acceptable. I have to say I had a right faff applying this top coat, I used 3 coats to get the full glitter effect and it took ages to dry so it kept smudging which was really annoying. In all fairness, you probably aren't supposed to use that many coats but I'm not one for the subtle look!
