Top Nail Polishes 2012

(from left to right):
OP1 'DS Classic'
17 Lasting Fix 'Sweet Kisses'
Barry M 'Raspberry'
No.7 Limited Edition 'Gold'
Max Factor 'Pretty in Pink'
Essie 'Sand Tropez'
American Apparel 'Galaxy'

This one was a hard choice for me, nail polishes are possibly my favourite beauty product so choosing between so many took a great deal of time! I would never dream of leaving the house without nail polish on, presentable hands and nails are so important to me. I've included both new and old polishes which have served me well over the year and will continue to use into the New Year.

OPI 'DS Classic'

If you're looking for an elegant, full coverage glitter shade that still attracts attention with it's ultra sparkle then this is perfection! I saw this in Selfridge's and it was love at first sight. The polish is a dark gold shade containing tiny sparkles of glitter that really glisten when applied to the nail. I've used this so many times during both the Summer and Winter seasons as I think it's really suitable for both. OPI polishes do tend to be slightly expensive in comparison to drugstore brands but I find this really stays on the nail and only needs two coats. Perfect for the upcoming party season!

17 Lasting Fix 'Sweet Kisses'

'Sweet Kisses' is my sort of 'go-to' neutral shade which I usually apply underneath a glitter top coat rather than on its own. The shade of this polish is a really pale lilac which I wore religiously during the Summer months. I also went through a phase of using it during my 'ombré nail' stage and it blended really well with other shades of lilac and pinks. It is really pale so does need a few coats in order to give a full colour coverage but doesn't gloop and dries quickly.

Barry M 'Raspberry'

'Raspberry' is a polish I've had for many years and always find myself revisiting during this time of year. This polish is the perfect shade of dark raspberry, it has a really bright red/pink tone and is so eye-catching when applied to the nail. I'm not a massive fan of ultra red nails so this shade suits me perfectly as it has a pink undertone giving it more depth. I also use this colour quite often on my toes as it stays on the nail for a long time and doesn't tend to chip.

No.7 Limited Edition 'Gold'

'Gold' is a fairly recent purchase as it is part of No.7's Limited Edition collection for the upcoming party season. I'm like a magpie - if something is sparkly and especially gold, I will buy it within an instant. Luckily, this was not just an impulse buy that I was soon to regret. The polish is made up of small and tiny gold glitter particles which really blend together well to create a glistening effect on the nail. I've used this many times over Barry M 'Raspberry' for a festive look or 17 'Sweet Kisses' for a more subtle look and I'm dying to use it again! I'd love to try it on it's own and apply around 3 coats to give a total glitter coverage but I'm not sure if this would look too much? Hopefully you can still get hold of it at your local Boots store as is really is a beautiful polish.

Max Factor 'Pretty in Pink'

I'm really not a fan of pink nail polish, but don't be fooled by the name of this beauty! I picked this up whilst on holiday in Marbella during the Summer and I think I pretty much used it during my entire stay. 'Pretty in Pink' is the perfect vibrant peach polish and it looks so gorgeous against tanned skin. I love my neutral/ nude shades but this has more of a peach undertone so really stands out on the nail and creates the perfect Summer look. The bottle is really tiny so I've restricted myself on how often I use it nowadays but I will definitely repurchase if I see it around.

Essie 'Sand Tropez'

'Sand Tropez' is my ultimate favourite neutral/ nude nail polish and possibly my favourite nail polish of all time (dare I say it!). In the bottle it does look quite bland and boring, but when applied to the nail, especially against tanned skin, I really love the subtle effect. It reminds me slightly of Models Own 'Utopia' but has less of a lilac undertone and more of a sandy shade. I often use this on it's own, especially during times when I'm fed up of vibrant polishes clashing with my outfits! The polish is a really good quality, stays on the nail for a long period of time and has a lovely glossy finish.

American Apparel 'Galaxy'

'Galaxy' is the queen of glitter nail polishes in my eyes! The polish is made up of a clear gloss containing large multi-coloured glitter particles that really do take over your nail when applied. I've tried a single coating of this before and it creates a sort of 'polka dot' effect, whereas a double coating gives more coverage and a slightly more whacky look. I usually apply this over a neutral shade so it stands out more but I guess it could be used against a dark shade to create a galaxy style effect. I find with many large glitter particles the glitter doesn't lie flat so I end up pulling it off (like Models Own 'Boogie Nights') but 'Galaxy' doesn't have this effect and gives a long-lasting finish.

Hope everyone has enjoyed my top-rated nail polishes and agrees with some of my choices! If there are any 'top-rated' categories you want me to include within my next posts just leave your suggestions in a comment and I will be sure to consider them! I'm thinking 'my top-rated skin products of 2012' next week so keep an eye out...
